To reach your potential you must jump into each area of your life with great passion. In the pursuit of your dreams the measure of your heart eclipses the sum of your education and your experience. Living with passion will always take your farther.
I have a personal philosophy about hiring that has served me very well—rarely have I hired a dud. In this philosophy I first evaluate the candidate’s educational attainments and his experience. What does he know and how has he applied it in the past?
But the deciding factor has to do with the candidate’s heart. Does she display a passion for her work? Does she want to learn and grow? Does she crave improvement?
I would much rather hire a person with lesser experience and education if he shows an intense passion for his work.
Athletic recruiters know this principle. Ability combined with a passion to excel and win makes for a superstar. Hustle enhances effectiveness.
College acceptance staff also understands this principle. They look at transcripts and test scores, but they also look at the passion with which the candidate has lived. Many high school valedictorians fail in college because they lack the drive to survive the tougher competition.
If you want greater success, embrace every aspect of your life with greater passion. Your compensation depends more on what you produce than on the time you log. If you produce more, you will receive more pay. You may not see the pay off immediately, but you can be certain it will come. Give more to your employer than you are paid to do and your compensation will catch up.
This principle of living with greater passion to achieve greater success applies not only to your career, but also to your marriage and family life, and to your faith. Increased desire and passion will energize your life in all areas.
The great key to this principle lies in improving your love for the object of your passion. If you can love without reservation your spouse, your family, your work, and your God, you will achieve the happiest and the most successful life possible.
Love without reservation:
- The object of your romance (your spouse);
- The product of your romance (your children and grandchildren);
- The object of your labor;
- The object of your faith.
Increase your passion and you will achieve greater success.
We are creatures of our thinking. We can talk ourselves into defeat or we can talk ourselves into victory. Gordon B. Hinckley
People rarely succeed unless they have fun in what they are doing. Dale Carnegie
The state of your life is nothing more than a reflection of your state of mind. Dr. Wayne W. Dyer
Attitude is more important than the past, than education, than money, than circumstances, than what people do or say. It is more important than appearance, giftedness, or skill. Charles Swindoll
Most of us are only six inches away from success; the distance between our ears. Dave Cole
Nothing can stop the man with the right mental attitude from achieving his goal; nothing on earth can help the man with the wrong mental attitude. Thomas Jefferson
You can do anything if you have enthusiasm. Enthusiasm is the yeast that makes your hopes rise to the stars. With it, there is accomplishment. Without it there are only alibis. Henry Ford
Every memorable act in the history of the world is a triumph of enthusiasm. Nothing great was ever achieved without it because it gives any challenge or any occupation, no matter how frightening or difficult, a new meaning. Without enthusiasm you are doomed to a life of mediocrity but with it you can accomplish miracles. Og Mandino
