My wife has great patience. I know I’m not easy to be around. Let me give you an example. It’s eleven at night, Kathy’s sound asleep and I’m reading. As I read, an idea pops into my head—something that will require attention. I jump out of bed, turn out the light, adjust her blankets, and go down to my office and get started implementing my new idea.

Today is better than someday.

I hear from so many people that dream of what they will do someday. Sometime they will write a book. Sometime they will research their family history. Someday they will get serious about living their values, go on a diet, run a 10K, reconcile with an estranged friend or loved one, start a business.

There’s no question that we cannot always do everything we want today. But we can make a plan and work toward our dreams—today. Waiting only hinders our opportunities. Delaying action hurts us. Procrastination keeps more people from living their dreams than any other cause.

Taking action today is a choice. Our obstacles may slow our progress, or make our dream pursuit more difficult. But, taking action and procrastinating are still our choices.

What keeps us from taking action today?

  1. We fear failure.
  2. We fear the effort.
  3. We wait for more favorable conditions.
  4. We get stuck in nonproductive habits (like TV watching four hours per day.)

What keeps you from taking action today?

You can start by reading a book, taking a class, establishing contacts, raising funds, or making a written plan.

You may not realize your dream today. But you can take action today.

Today is better than someday.

I've just read "Ordinary People Can Achieve Their Lofty Goals" for the 3rd time in 3 days. The first time, I only got to page 10 before I felt so inspired that I had to stop and finish off some work on some goals I'd let slip. The second time, I just couldn't put the book down. I read and re-read the articles and learnt so much. What an amazing collection. So profound and uplifting. The third time, I decided to cancel everything else and devote a couple of hours to the book and read them all through. It's like a Masterclass in Motivation. My mood lifted so much, I felt so inspired at the end. It's definitely going to be a book I'm going to come back to again and again. Brilliant concept, brilliant execution, brilliant results. Thanks.
By the way, there's no hype in that paragraph. That's exactly how it was.
